Atikokan’s Adult Learning Centre is a non-profit, charitable, Board run, community based Literacy and Basic Skills program dedicated to helping all adults in our community improve their basic reading, writing and math skills in a supportive environment. We promote a learner-centred approach to academic upgrading and essential skills training for employment readiness. This means learners direct their own learning and set their own goals – both long term and short term.
Literacy upgrading for our adult residents and surrounding area includes one-on-one or small group tutoring with literacy, numeracy, resume development, communications, basic computers, workforce literacy and high school credit courses.
We help you discover the skills you have and the skills you need and set up a learning plan that is just for you!
-Flexible meeting times and places in your area One-on-One
-Basic computer and Internet skills
We also offer:
Academic Career Entrance Program (ACE)
The ACE program is an adult upgrading certificate program for adult learners seeking admission to a post secondary college program or an apprenticeship who either did not receive their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or have an OSSD but are missing courses required for post secondary admission.
General Education Development (GED)
Recognized by colleges, apprenticeship and employers as an equivalent to an OSSD. We provided GED preparation to upgrade the adult learner’s skills to pass the GED tests.
Taxi and childcare training supports are available for those who require it.
We are funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
