Throughout our touring history, Royal MTC has brought a variety of professional theatre productions to rural communities. In this charming romantic comedy set in 1940, a dashing pilot falls for a prim young missionary-to-be on a train bound for New York, and decides to follow her home to Kentucky, changing both their lives forever. As part of Royal MTC’s annual Regional Tour, LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC will travel to 24 communities across Manitoba and Northern Ontario from January 30 – March 4, 2017.
The Royal MTC Regional Tour’s production of LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC is generously sponsored by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. With their support, Royal MTC is able to provide an opportunity for audiences outside of Winnipeg the opportunity to experience live, professional theatre.Tickets for performances of LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC can be purchased from representatives in each community. The play begins on a cross-country train headed back east in 1940. A young serviceman — recently discharged due to his epilepsy but still wearing his uniform — is chatting up a traveling small-town girl from Kentucky, recently disappointed in love. The pair, Raleigh and May, are sharing their conveyance with F. Scott Fitzgerald and Nathanael West. The famous writers, though, are not in a neighboring seat. Both being recently deceased, they’re together in the baggage car. Still, their famous if ghostly presence seems to have emboldened Raleigh, who dreams of being a great writer himself. Getting published, though, would surely be a good deal easier than piercing the defenses of May, a religious young lady with a clear-eyed view of her assigned place in the world.
