Ontario Power Generation

Major Employer / Ontario Power Generation

Ontario Power Generation’s Atikokan Generating Station is a 230 MW facility built in the early 1980’s. It was commissioned and went into active service in November 1985. The station burns a low sulfur lignite coal that is shipped by rail from southern Saskatchewan. Ignition fuel for the plant is natural gas. Plant output is fed into the provincial grid system, generally to supply the needs of Northwestern Ontario. The station employs about 90 people and is currently owned and operated by Ontario Power Generation. For more information, see http://www.opg.com.
